Neighbors for Renewal2007 Adult Mission Trip
This year we are going to Gulfport, MS for the 17th annual First United Adult Mission Trip. We will take the large bus and depart early Monday morning, October 29 and return Sunday, November 4. Those who would like may ride on the bus or you may drive your own vehicle. Gulfport is located on the Gulf Coast approximately 80 miles east of New Orleans. We will be staying on the grounds of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport. Accommodations have heat and AC and include three large and one small trailer that can sleep eight, six, three and three respectively as well as a “bunkhouse” that sleeps 38. There are a combination of bunk beds, doulble beds and pull out couches for sleeping. Mattresses or air mattresses will be furnished but we will need to bring bedding and/or sleeping bags and pillows. Needs are for building and rebuilding of damages done by huricane Katrina and for skilled labor such as roofing, drywall, plumbing and electrical work. Less skilled volunteers can be helpful in jobs such as scraping and painting and they can also learn from and work alongside the more skilled volunteers. Look for the information and signup sheets out side the chapel, sanctuary and in the church office.

In 2006 we went to Houma, LA where we helped rebuild a home that was damaged during hurricane Rita and also helped to construct a permanent structure on the camp grounds that will serve as a community building after reconstruction is completed in the Houma area. We stayed at the Good Earth Volunteer Village on the outskirts of Houma, which our presbytery in cooperation with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) helped to build.
