Dr. Greg R. Stovell joined First United Presbyterian Church as Senior Pastor in September 2005. Greg comes to First United from the First Presbyterian Church at
In 2001 he received his M. Div. from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary with a concentration in Bible and in 2007 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from McCormick Theological Seminary. Greg and his wife Susana have two children, Susy and Harry.
Rev. Alex Hendrickson joined our church family as our new Associate Pastor. She comes to Fi
rst United from Tempe, Arizona, after serving congregations in Arizona and Kentucky. According to Vision 2007, our congregation will see Alex using her gifts in the areas of Pastoral Care, Mission and Small Group Ministry among others.
On Sunday mornings, while Rev. Alex is leading worship, you may also see her family among us. Alex and her husband, the Rev. Brett Hendrickson have three beautiful young children, Thomas, Lily and David.
Dr. Fred Cornell became our Church's Pastor Emeritus upon his retirement in 1988. On May 1, 1956, Rev. Cornell, his wife Audrey and 3 year old son Paul came to the First Presbyterian Church of Belleville where he began serving as the Church's first Associate Pastor. In June 16, 1959 a second son John was born into the family and on December 27, 1959 Rev. Cornell was installed as the Senior Pastor. He was Pastor during the Church's move from 225 S. High St. in March of 1963 and in the subsequent building of the Multipurpose Building in 1974 and the Sanctuary in 1982. He also led the congregation during and after the merger with First Presbyterian Church of East St. Louis in 1982. He suffered the deaths of his son Paul in 1977 and his wife Audrey in 1986. He retired in 1988. In August 1988 he became the Supply Pastor of Concordia UCC Church where he served until April 2004 and retired as Pastor Emeritus.
In 1982 he was blessed with a Granddaughter Kristin and in 1988 a Grandson Joshua both born to his son John and his wife Kim. In 1994 he married a Pastor's Widow, Barbara L. Eichenlaub who has two sons John and Mark. In 2001 Mark and his wife Karen gave the family a Granddaughter Ellie and in 2003 a grandson C.J. Before coming to Belleville, Rev. Cornell served Churches in Arkansas and Missouri and in 1972 received his third graduate degree, Doctor of Ministry from Eden Seminary. He also served as a Naval Officer in the South Pacific during WWII. Rev. Cornell is a native of Richmond Heights, MO.
